Polished & Lacquered Brass

Our C360 free-machining brass plates are precision face-milled and hand-polished to a mirror finish, then lacquered with a two-part polyurethane clear coat meeting BS EN ISO 12944-5 corrosion protection system C3 classification for medium corrosivity environments, locking in the polished finish for 5–10 years without tarnishing. Surface roughness of the polished face is measured using a contact profilometer (Taylor Hobson Surtronic S-100 series) to confirm an Ra value of ≤0.1 micrometres, meeting the ISO 1302 specification for surface texture indication for a mirror-grade architectural finish.

Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel

316L stainless steel contains 2% molybdenum, providing superior resistance to chloride pitting corrosion compared to 304-grade material. Cast Iron Heritage Plates

Engraving & Finishing

All lettering is deep-engraved using a diamond-drag engraving spindle on our CNC router, producing V-groove channels that hold paint fill or contrast without wearing away. We Craft Your Plate

Production takes 7–10 working days for standard orders, or 3–4 weeks for specialist finishes including gold leaf gilding and multi-layer LED assemblies.

What grade of stainless steel should I choose for a house sign?
Always specify Grade 316 marine-grade stainless steel if you live within 50 miles of the coast. It contains molybdenum, which prevents pitting and tea staining in salt-laden air, verified through ASTM B117 salt-spray testing. Grade 304 is suitable for inland locations but lacks molybdenum’s critical coastal corrosion protection.
Grade 316 stainless steel resists rust through its chromium oxide protective layer restored by ASTM A967 passivation. However, using non-stainless fixings such as mild steel screws causes bleed staining brown rust trails from the hardware. Always use matching 316-grade stainless steel screws, bolts, and wall plugs to prevent galvanic corrosion transfer.
A brushed finish is the most practical choice for outdoor house signs. It hides minor scratches, fingerprints, and water spots far better than a mirror-polished surface. Both finishes maintain identical corrosion resistance under BS EN 10088 standards. Polished steel looks premium but requires frequent cleaning with a microfibre cloth.
Unlacquered brass develops a natural patina over time many homeowners prefer this aged character. To maintain the original shine, polish quarterly using a dedicated brass polish compound with a soft cloth. Lacquered brass needs only a damp cloth wipe. Apply Renaissance Wax annually as a protective barrier against oxidation.
