Custom Mailbox Name Plates & Address Signs

Your mailbox is the first fixed point where your address becomes real. A custom mailbox name plate adds identity and clarity helping delivery drivers, visitors, and emergency services locate your property without confusion.
We fabricate mailbox plates from 0.8mm 304-grade stainless steel sheet stock, sheared and brake-formed to match the radius of standard mailbox panel profiles. All stainless steel is formed on a CNC press brake with ±0.2° bending angle repeatability to ensure consistent curvature across batch production. All dimensional tolerances comply with USPS Publication 632 delivery design standards for curbside mailboxes to ensure compatibility with USPS-approved mailbox models.

Mailbox Plate Options

Curved Stainless Steel Plates

Our radius-formed stainless steel plates fit seamlessly over the curved body of standard American-style rural mailboxes. The printed or engraved address numerals use automotive-grade vinyl lettering with a minimum 7-year outdoor rating per ASTM D44956 standard specification for retroreflective sheeting for traffic control, ensuring legibility in all lighting conditions including night-time headlight reflection. The vinyl is applied using a rubber-tipped application squeegee at a consistent 45-degree angle to eliminate trapped air bubbles, and adhesion is checked at 72 hours using ASTM D3330 standard test method for peel adhesion of pressure-sensitive tape at a 180° peel angle to confirm a minimum bond strength of 15 N/25mm to the stainless steel substrate.

Magnetic Name Plates

Our flexible magnetic mailbox plates use a 1.5mm thick flexible ferrite magnetic sheet with a surface pull strength of ≥0.8 N/cm², allowing easy removal and repositioning without tools. The magnetic backing material conforms to ASTM F2132 standard specification for flexible magnetic sheeting for dimensional stability across temperature ranges of -20°C to +70°C covering all US climate extremes. Magnetic pull-strength consistency across the panel is verified using a hall-effect gaussmeter calibrated per IEEE 1308 standard for calibration of electromagnetic field sensors and probes at nine points across the panel face, confirming a maximum field variation of ±10% from the specified nominal value.

Self–Adhesive Aluminium Panels

Ultra-slim 1.5mm powder–coated aluminium panels are applied using 3M VHB 4950 structural adhesive tape (rated 40 N/cm² shear strength per ASTM D1002), pre–masked for clean installation. The powder coating meets AAMA 2604 voluntary specification for superior performing organic coatings on aluminium extrusions for a 10–year minimum colour and gloss retention guarantee. Adhesive bond development is monitored at 24 and 72 hours using an in–situ lap shear test fixture (ASTM D1002), with all panels achieving the minimum specified bond strength before the product is dispatched, ensuring the adhesive joint reaches full cure under 3M VHB Technical Data Sheet minimum service temperature of –30°C for reliable performance in northern US winter conditions.

Number & Address Formatting

All mailbox plates can display the full address, house name, or street number. We format numerals to comply with NFPA 1192 standard requirements for road identification and addressing minimum 3-inch character height with high-contrast colour combinations for emergency services visibility. We also offer retroreflective number panels conforming to ASTM D4956 Type I retroreflective sheeting specifications for maximum night-time legibility. Character retroreflectance values are measured using a retroreflectometer (Delta LTL-X by Gamma Scientific) at a -4° entrance angle and 0.2° observation angle per ASTM E1346 standard test method for comparison of retroreflective materials using retro-reflectometers, confirming a minimum 70 cd/(lx·m²) retroreflective coefficient for emergency services visibility.

How It Works
Our 3-Step Process

Ordering a custom house name plate takes less than five minutes. Every plate is made to order — there is no off-the-shelf inventory.

Choose Your Design

Browse our design gallery or start from scratch. Select your preferred material, font, size, and finish. Upload your house name or number text and preview your plate in our interactive configurator. Need help? Our design team will create a free digital proof within 24 hours of your enquiry.

We Craft Your Plate

Once you approve your proof, our workshop begins fabrication. Each plate is individually cut, engraved, and finished by hand. We use a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) calibrated to ISO 10360-2 verification standards to confirm dimensional accuracy on every piece before it leaves the bench. Production takes 7–10 working days for standard orders, or 3–4 weeks for specialist finishes including gold leaf gilding and multi-layer LED assemblies.

Delivery & Installation

Your finished plate is packaged in a rigid, foam-lined shipping crate designed to prevent surface damage in transit. We ship via tracked courier to all USA mainland addresses, with next-day and international options available. Every order includes a precision-drilled mounting template, stainless steel fixings, and a printed installation guide or you can book our professional fitting service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the USPS requirements for mailbox name plates and address numbers?
USPS requires your house number to be at least 1 inch tall, displayed on the carrier-approach side, in a contrasting colour. If your mailbox is on a different street, display your full address. Advertising on mailboxes is prohibited. Many local jurisdictions mandate 4-inch minimum reflective numbers for emergency vehicle visibility.
Reflective numbers are not federally mandated but are strongly recommended especially on rural routes. 3M Engineer-Grade reflective sheeting helps mail carriers during low-light deliveries and assists emergency responders. Adding reflective material is permitted provided it does not obstruct the mailbox flag mechanism or carrier access door.
Stainless steel and marine-grade aluminium are the most durable for full curbside weather exposure. Engraved brass offers a classic look but requires quarterly polishing. Avoid paper labels or basic vinyl stickers; they fade and peel within 6–12 months. UV-resistant cast acrylic with laser-engraved lettering rated to ISO 7823-1 is a strong mid-range option.
Cluster Box Units are owned by USPS, so modifications are restricted. Most CBUs have built-in label slots using a printed or engraved label card that slides into the slot. Contact your property manager or local postmaster for the approved label size. Permanent drilling or adhesive on USPS property is prohibited.
